Beware of Bogus IRS Emails

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently issued a new warning to taxpayers to use caution with regard to emails appearing to be from the agency. The IRS noted that scam artists attempt to take advantage of taxpayers online using a variety of methods, especially during tax season.

These criminals use the IRS name and logo to make the messages appear legitimate in an attempt to gather personal and financial information from the email recipient.

The IRS warns that anyone receiving such communications should not attempt to reply to it or open any attachments to the email(s). The IRS does not contact taxpayers by email or social media channels to request such information.
